Mars closing Ethel M. Chocolate Stores

ethel_m_chocolateEthel M. Chocolate lounges are closing its doors this month throughout Illinois.  This upscale brand of chocolate chain owned by Mars, Inc. will only be available on its website and in Las Vegas.

The gourmet candy line ranges between $8 and $45.  The company encouraged customers to linger, lounge and chat over chocolate.  A spokesperson said the Illinois locations “were under performing” and that they “learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t from our associates.”

This is too bad.  I don’t like losing places that encourage enjoying chocolate, relaxation and socialization.

What do you think?
