Food, Inc

Food Inc movieChanges have been occurring in the way we eat, both on a local and national level.  It’s a good thing, too.  I am fortunate enough to live in an area with lots agriculture and farming.  I also have my own garden and love eating the fresh fruits of my labor.

I read a Newsweek article about a documentary called Food, Inc. that opened June 12th, 2009.  It looks at the giant food companies and exposes our nation’s food supply.  Basically, it reminds us that you get what you pay for.  Sure, we have tomatoes that don’t go bad and larger chicken breasts, but we also have new and more harmful strains of bacteria and widespread obesity and diabetes.

Some people think the prices for the premium chocolate that I carry are high, but they must remember that it is a quality, all natural product.  The care and effort these small chocolate makers put into each batch of chocolate is really incalculable and can be tasted in every delicious piece we enjoy.  They have a lot at stake in the beans they purchase and many people’s livelihoods depend on the success of the product.  They nurture the beans through each step of the process and their craftsmanship is proved on the palate.

There’s money and power behind selling cheap, unhealthy food.  We have to put our money where our mouth is and buy quality items when possible.  Check out the article, see the movie and decide for yourself.

Drexelius Chocolates wants to thank you for your continued support of healthy, quality chocolate.  Enjoy some today!
