Le Notre – Vegas

On a recent trip to Vegas we took a side trip to Paris and stopped in a little shop called Le Notre, which carries on the traditions of the famed patriarch of French pâtisserie, Gaston Lenôtre.  He became successful by focusing on quality ingredients and demanding a return to simple preparations.  His creations have been compared to Chanel for their standards of quality.

Le Notre Las VegasFor such a well-known man, the shop sits quietly among the others in the Paris Hotel on the Strip.  We walked inside and marveled at the beautiful creations that were laid out before us.  It was hard to decide which to select, but we chose three chocolate temptations and took them home to eat later.

All of the desserts were perfect for one or enough for two to share.  The ones we selelcted had a notable chocolate flavor…not cloying or sweet, but dark and delicious.  The raspberry mousse had delicious chunks of raspberry hidden in the airy dark chocolate mousse.  The dark chocolate tart looked like a mini chocolate pie and was light and decadent.  The chocolate pistachio cake was the perfect blend of nuttiness and chocolate…absolutely dreamy.

America wasn’t ready for the artful, delicate pastry of Lenôtre when he started his career, but is definitely ready for it now.  Make sure to stop by this wonderful shop the next time you are in Las Vegas for some delightful and delicious desserts.   It is one of the few things in Vegas that won’t break your bank and the light pastries won’t bust your gut.  Enjoy!
