Bottega Louie

Bottega Louie pastryBottega Louie SouffleSome friends and I were getting together for dinner this past summer and decided to make a meal of it at the newly rebranded Bottega Louie in downtown LA.  It is a combo restaurant/grocer that carries handpicked items currently unavailable Downtown (like infused oils, sliced meats and other high end items).  The patisserie is run by Tamara Draper (formerly of Boule on La Cienega).  The selection looked amazing, but I didn’t get a chance to try anything.

Having just come back from chocolate heaven with Bouchon Bakery in New York City, I had to order the chocolate souffle for a compare and contrast.

The menu says it will take 25 minutes and it did.  How did it taste?  Well, it brought me back to earth.  The souffle was cakey, spongey, lacked chocolate flavor, fairly disappointing.  The cream they gave was like 2% milk and didn’t add any flavor or substance.  Comparable to having melted ice cream on cake.

I actually shared this souffle with other people!!!!   If you read the other post, you know that you would have had to fight to get a taste of heaven at Bouchon where I barely even noticed other people were with me as I devoured the souffle.

Oh, well.  One day there will be a place that can hold its own against the Bouchon souffle.  Until then…I dream!
