Grilled Chocolate and Brie – Recipe

Oh boy, are these chocolate and Brie sandwiches are goooooood!  Warm and gooey with a crunchy, toasted crust.  Just the right mix of sweet and savory that really hits the spot. Mmmmmmmmmm!

The Brie is creamy and a bit salty, which works well with the dark chocolate.  Make these like you would a grilled cheese sandwich.  We suggest that you don’t use too much chocolate or it will overpower the cheese.  Balance is the key.

Ingredients :

  • sourdough bread or ciabatta bread
  • extra-virgin olive oil
  • Brie cheese, thinly sliced
  • dark chocolate (broken into chunks) or bittersweet chocolate chips
  • fresh basil leaves, either whole or thinly sliced

Preheat a pan on the stove.

Brush both sides of the bread with olive oil. Grill the bread slices until they begin to turn golden, about 1 to 2 minutes, then remove them from the pan.

Place approximately 2 ounces of Brie cheese on the bottom half of the bread, top the cheese with ~1.5 oz chocolate and a sprinkle of basil.  Top with another slice of bread. Continue with the remaining sandwiches.  Return the sandwiches to the pan.  Continue cooking over medium-low heat until the chocolate begins to melt, about another 2 minutes, adjusting the heat accordingly.

Remove sandwiches from pan.  Cut these beautiful sandwiches and transfer to a serving plate.  Enjoy!

As with any recipe, we recommend using the best ingredients to get the best results…from the olive oil to the chocolate.  Check out what’s yummy at Drexelius Chocolates and buy chocolate to enjoy these incredible sandwiches today!

  1. I’ve never even thought of brie & chocolate together but I so love the idea. Wonder what they’d be like if you added some thin slices of granny smith apples? Maybe dried cranberries? I’ll give it a try. (Also, what a beautiful picture! )
