Nine Cakes

I am very lucky.  I got a chance to enjoy cake by a made-to-order company that recently got its start in Brooklyn, NY.  Nine Cakes (check out their site here) gets rave reviews from completely satisfied customers and their business continues to grow from personal recommendations.  They’ve been on the TODAY show, Daily Candy and Wedded Bits.  Nine Cakes rounded out a stellar first year (2009) with a photoshoot with the talented crew at Martha Stewart Weddings.

I am not a big cake fan, to tell the truth.  Chocolate cake is never chocolate enough.  The flavor is usually lost in the process and the cake leaves me wanting more.  Instead of opting for chocolate cake, we tried their pumpkin walnut cake with dark chocolate ganache.  How was it?  Well…in a word, fantastic!  The cake was moist and flavorful.  It had just the right touch of spice and wasn’t overpowering or lazy.  Large walnut chunks add great texture and flavor.  The cake was the right amount of sweet, too.  There are times when a bite or two is all it takes for sugar overload, but with this cake you were eager to take another bite.  The beautiful dark chocolate ganache is glorious.  Creamy, super thick and decadent.  Yummy!
